The Top 10 Hair Removal Methods – Which Is Right For You?

What's New in Hair Removal Methods? | Simply Hair Removal Blog

Do you have unwanted body hair? Are you trying to choose between hair removal methods? This guide contains all you need to decide. It details several popular as well as not-so-common methods of getting rid of unwanted hair, including shaving, plucking, waxing, sugar waxing, bleaching, threading, depilatories, electrolysis, laser, and vaniqa.

Shaving

Shaving is a temporary hair removal method. It is inexpensive, but for most people the hair has started to grow back by the following day. To prevent stubble, you must shave once or twice daily. Razors come in all varieties. They can be made of cheap plastic with a single blade which can be bought for a quarter, or a high quality electric version costing or more.

Plucking

Another common hair removal method is plucking, or tweezing, the hair. While this method is time consuming, as you can only pluck one hair at a time, it is useful for smaller areas, such as an extra eyebrow hair or two. However, it can be painful, especially around the eyes, and can cause irritation and ingrown hairs. While it is a myth that by plucking a hair out by its root you are causing two to grow in its place, many women do not pluck their hair for this very reason. But investing in a pair of tweezers is a lifesaver when you want to look perfect for that special occasion.

Waxing

For larger areas, many people prefer to use hot wax. The wax is applied to the skin with a piece of paper or cloth covering it. After the wax cools, the strip is ripped away, taking the hair with it. While this method is fast, it can also be painful. In addition, waxing removes the top layer of skin, and can cause rashes and redness. However, once you become good at the technique, it is an easy and inexpensive way to quickly get rid of unwanted hair at home. Kits can be purchased for -. You can also have your skin waxed by a professional. Depending on the area you are having waxed, this can cost from to around 0.

Sugar Waxing

Sugar waxing is similar in method to traditional waxing, except that the "wax" is a sticky sugary paste. Sugaring is even less expensive, as home kits can be bought for as little as .

Bleaching

Rather than removing the hair, some women prefer to lighten it. This is especially common for women with facial hair. Bleaching is completely pain-free, and can be done at home. Most women do not have any skin reactions to the bleach; however, as with a hair dye, be sure to test first on a small, inconspicuous part of your skin, just in case the bleach does change your skin color or cause irritation.

Threading

Threading, also known as khite, is commonly practiced in the Middle East but much less well-known in the west. It is performed using a cotton thread. The thread is twisted, catching the hair, and is then pulled to remove it. The results are similar to plucking, but many more hairs can be removed at one time. Always use cotton so the fibers themselves do not irritate the skin.

Depilatories

Depilatories are creams that dissolve hair, allowing it to be wiped away. For some people, depilatories last no longer than shaving, while others are hair-free for several days. The process is not always painless, but is definitely less painful than waxing. The creams can be bought for a few dollars at any drug store.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method. A needle is placed in a hair follicle and electric current is delivered to the follicle. This damages the hair, and it does not return. This method works well for small localized areas of hair, but can be time consuming and costly for large patches, as each hair must be done individually. Also, if the needle is not inserted just right, the hair may need to be retreated, and often an area must be treated three to four times before the hair is permanently removed. While the needle should not puncture the skin, electrolysis can be painful. It is recommended that electrolysis be done by a professional; home treatment methods are difficult and generally unsuccessful.

Laser

Laser hair removal is another permanent hair removal method. It is a more recent method, and data as to its long-term effectiveness is still being gathered. Light from a laser is pointed at a small area of skin. The energy from the light is absorbed by the dark hair pigment, heating and damaging the follicle. This method does not work for white or grey hair or for people with dark skin and light hair. Because this method does not require each hair to be treated individually, this method is much quicker and less expensive for larger areas such as the legs as compared to electrolysis. If you are interested in laser hair removal, find a reputable professional. Laser hair removal can cause permanent skin damage if not performed properly. It can be painful, but as more research continues to be gathered, its looking more and more like a viable option for many people. The only place laser hair removal should not be performed is around the eyes, as it could cause permanent eye damage.

Vaniqa

Vaniqa is a cream designed specifically to target facial hair in women. It is intended to slow the growth of this hair, and is designed to be used with other nonpermanent methods of hair removal. It is available by prescription only, and has been shown to be effective in almost 60% of the patients in the trial. It is currently only for use by women over 12.

Remember when your mother always told you that you didn't really want to start shaving? But you insisted that you would want to continue for the rest of your life. However, for many women, unwanted hair causes major stress and discomfort everyday. You should now be able to more easily choose between the many hair removal methods and choose the one that is right for you.

can you plz tell me the permanent hair removal methods for girls? and hair should not grow again? desperately waiting for the answer?

      Laser hair removal is wonderful!

      Okay… science answer:

You grow in at least 80% of your hair during puberty. When you have laser hair removal the hairs it kills will never grow again. But you still have up to 20% of your normal thickness that will grow in throughout the rest of your life. So people get touch up sessions every 3-5 years after their big 6 treatments. You need about 6 treatments, one each 2 months for a year, because the hair grows in different stages and it can only kill hair in the active growth stage.

      Okay…
      Personal Experience:
I’ve had 2 out of my 6 treatments so far. It HURTS! I’ve had my legs, underarms, and bikini area done. When you get your bikini area done they do ALL of it! Including spreading your butt and vaginal lips spart to laser all the cracks… It’s sorta awkward. After the 2 treatments I’ve had so far I’ve lost about 60% of leg hair, 40% bikini hair, and 25% underarms hair. It’s because the underarms hair is the thinnest and the leg hair is the coarsest. But the legs are the most painful. The more it hurts the better it works.
I spent this much for 6 treatments in each area:
      Bikini-$750
      Underarms-$750
      Legs (toes to bikini)-$2,500

Email me if you have any more questions about it!

I’ve heard of vaniqua but i’m not sure how well it works. Also if anyone has suggestions for treatments that will get rid of blemishes on dark skin.

Is it possible to get ingrown hairs from all hair removal methods?
Could you get ingrown hairs from waxing, shaving, tweezing and hair removal cream?
Is it painful to get ingrown hairs and is it easy to get rid of them? Thanks!

    • amono says:

you can by using hair removal cream

      also follow these great tips

      # Allow your hair to grow a little longer before shaving to help prevent your hair from becoming ingrown.

      # Use skincare products that are specially created for sensitive skin, such as shaving gels with extra lubrication and less foam.

      # Exfoliate the skin regularly by using a facial scrub. This will remove the dead layers of skin, thus removing some of the potential cells that may clog your pores and aid ingrown hairs.

Other methods of hair removal besides shaving?
I’m 15, and I HATE shaving! It’s time consuming, and I get horrible razor burn.
I have really dark and thick hair that grows back very fast. I also have really sensitive skin, and I can’t afford any expensive laser treatments.
What are some other hair removal methods?
    Thanks.

Ok I know its kind of time consuming but it really thins the hairs and rips them out from the roots. Its called sugar waxing. You make the wax urself and here are a few tips. Go on youtube to check up tutorials and make sure u rip the hair up fast. Use a material that doesn’t stretch like a towel cuz the stiff material goes faster and doesn’t cling and hurts less. Don’t worry it washes out easily. Don’t put the mix in the fridge to cool otherwise u have to reheat it cuz it gets really hard, let it cool in room temperature instead. Just rap it and put it in the microwave when u have left over and u can reuse it again. You can also reheat it in the microwave. Do it a day before a special event or something cuz it takes like 2 hours for beginners just to wax not including making the mix. Rip the material up fast cuz it hurts if u do it slow. Try to only do it when needed like if u wear a short dress or something cuz if u do it too much ur skin can start to wrinkle and/or sag. First make sure u take a hot towel (wet it and then microwave for 35-45 seconds. Quickly put it on your legs and pat down. This helps open the pores and make skin softer andeasierr to rip out. Get every inch of skin on you legs and you might have to reheat it a few times). Then prepare legs by putting baby powder all over them and make sure u keep the towel near so you could clean up (either baby powder or when the wax drips on a surface. Keep the wax away from carpets or leather cuz even though it comes out easily it comes out best on polished wood and glass). Here are some links that will help….i’ve done it three times so far and i see a major difference in the thickness of my hair and it rips of dead skin cells so udon’tt have to exfoliate ur legs :) at least ry it once and then you can make up ur mind.

What are the good hair removal cram methods that work well?
I have always waxed, but my skin always hurts for ages after wards. I’m thinking about hair removal cream, probably not shaving. Would it make my hair grow back thicker and blacker (I have very dark hair)? Can you give me some good and bad points on different hair removal methods? Thanks!
